This workshop will be facilitated by Mallory French and Rio Polquin. Participants will receive an overview of the evidence-based practice, Parent Child Interaction Therapy(PCIT), which is often utilized with children between the ages of 2 and 7 alongside their primary care givers with the support of a mental health clinician. The participants will learn about the skills and interventions often used in PCIT that are taught to the primary caregivers when interacting with their child. Rio and Mallory will share how these interventions can be helpful skills to use beyond the PCIT room with a parent and therapist, and how they can be adapted to use in your early learning environments to support with behavior, mental health, and social emotional needs that the children in your care may be struggling with. This workshop is for Early Quality Matter Participants Only! Presented by Lakeshore: Between birth to age three, children rapidly achieve many important milestones that create the foundation for later growth and development. Children depend on adults to provide support as they begin to learn and understand the world around them. In this session, we will look at the role the caregiver plays to foster children's learning and development. We will explore how to be responsive to a child’s cues and how to provide support as children develop initiative, curiosity, imagination, persistence, which are necessary to explore the world around them and gain a sense of self and a feeling of belonging to a group. We will discuss strategies and activities to support communication, language, and physical development while intentionally engaging with infants and toddlers. As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to: implement effective strategies to support children’s development in initiative, curiosity, imagination, and persistence. Participants will receive an Infant & Toddler Material Kit valued at $500.00! Only One Kit per each family child care home licensee and center-based site representative. More
