The PCOE State and Federal Programs Network meets monthly following the CDE State and Federal Directors meeting. We provide current and accurate information for program directors responsible for oversight of federal categorical programs and state requirements. Meetings include pertinent and timely information on topics related to categorical needs, programs, compliance, and other related items. In addition, the meetings provide an opportunity to meet and share ideas with people who have similar responsibilities within other Local Educational Agencies (LEAs).

The attorneys will cover the numerous legal rules governing discipline and the law as well as the special protections applicable to special education students being disciplined. The training will include when a student is removed for disciplinary reasons, when and how to conduct appropriate manifestation determinations (“MDs”), and interim alternative educational settings. In addition to a refresher on all of the legal procedures and timelines applicable to MD reviews, this session highlights the most common MD pitfalls and offers numerous practical lessons and tips learned from recent case law to help avoid unnecessary conflicts and costly litigation. Attendees will be equipped with resources to align instruction with key learning goals and priority standards.
