Please join us for the 2nd Virtual 2020-21 – Father Literacy Project meeting for the project is being held virtually via zoom and will be presented by Steven Bruce, PCOE Early Childhood Specialist and Daniel Mendoza, Site Supervisor. Father’s (father figures) play a critical role in their child’s early literacy development through reading books with their child, engaging in conversation, and sharing stories. Small world play is an imaginative play experience for children that involves miniature playscapes and imaginative play. In the presentation, Lisa and Cheri share the value of small world play to enhance children’s competencies. Fascinating stories and captivating photographs will be shared of small world examples and how they support a strong foundation for emerging language, communication, and literacy competence in school and beyond. Also revealed is how play with small worlds supports English language learners and strengthens family connections. Lisa and Cheri will walk through the essential components, resources, and step-by-step guidelines for creating small worlds. At the end of the presentation session, participants will use materials to create their own small world.

Join us for a two part CA Health Education Professional Learning Session introducing the new 2019 California Health Education Framework. The Framework offers up-to-date, relevant guidance on the Why, What, and How of teaching comprehensive health education in grades K-12. Research clearly demonstrates that healthy students are better learners. Now more than ever, we have a responsibility to improve the health literacy of our students so they can lead healthy lives that support their learning now, as well as ensure they are college, career, and life ready.
