Evidence-Based Practices for Autism #1 Visual Supports

EBPs for Autism – Visual Supports:

Must have attended an initial overview of EBPs for Autism

Format: Each EBP Series begins with a workshop for both coaches and participants to provide an overview of the Evidence-Based Practice, and a “make and take” component so that teams leave with materials and resources needed to begin implementation. Coaches will participate in two video conference “check-ins” with the coaching team (to be scheduled) following the training (one midway through the implementation cycle and one at the completion of the implementation cycle).

Visual Supports are concrete visual cues that are paired with, or used in place of, a verbal cue to provide the learner with information about a routine, activity, behavioral expectation, or skill demonstration. Visual supports might include: pictures, written words, and objects; arrangement of the environment; visual boundaries; schedules; maps; labels; organization systems; timelines; and visual scripts. Participants will learn how to select, create and implement the use of visual supports in their classrooms. Participants will leave with a ready to implement visual support specific to their student needs. Visual supports are an evidence-based practice for school age (6-22) students in the area of social. Visual supports are an evidence-based practice for students in the 0-14 year age range in the areas of social, communication, behavior, play, school readiness and academic learning.
